Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority, OYRLEA, has issued a fourteen-day quit notice to all occupants and users of government land within the Ogun–Osun Government Reservation Area (GRA), Ring Road, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The action followed a letter received from a petitioner, who lawfully acquired a parcel of land within the area but was prevented from taking possession after occupants claimed the land belonged to the Ogun–Osun GRA.
In response to an earlier petition, the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) officially engaged the Oyo State Ministry of Lands Housing and Urban Development to ascertain the true ownership status of the disputed land. The Ministry, in its clarification, confirmed that while the land was initially allocated by the Oyo State Government to the Ogun–Osun GRA, the allocation was strictly a lease arrangement and not an outright transfer of ownership.
The Ministry further explained that the leased land was re-acquired by the Oyo State Government after it was discovered that the land was no longer being used for the purpose for which it was allocated, thereby reverting ownership fully to the State government.
Subsequent official inspections revealed that portions of the government land were being unlawfully occupied and used for unauthorized activities, including livestock rearing, operation of slaughter slabs and abattoirs, mechanic workshops, greenhouse and agricultural activities, plastic storage and recycling, as well as other activities constituting public nuisance, environmental pollution and degradation.
Based on these findings, the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority team, led by the Chief of Staff to the Chairperson, I. E. Akinbode Esq. issued a formal Notice to Evacuate, dated January 19, 2025, directing all illegal occupants to vacate the land within fourteen days. Occupants were also instructed to remove all livestock, structures, equipment and personal belongings within the stipulated period.
The government warned that failure to comply with the directive would result in enforcement actions, including removal of occupants, abatement of nuisance and recovery of government property in line with existing laws and directives.
Speaking on the exercise, the OYRLEA Chairperson, Honourable Justice Aderonke Adekemi Aderemi (Rtd.), frowned at violations of already established laws and failure to uphold the rule of
In a similar development, the Oyo State Government through OYRLEA issues a 14-Day Notice to Vacate Illegal Road Setbacks. The fourteen-day notice was issued to individuals and businesses illegally occupying road setbacks at Ijokodo, Apete Area, Ido Local Government road, behind Polytechnic Ibadan, directing them to vacate the affected areas immediately.
