Oyo Govt. Reiterates: The Rule of Law must be upheld by all

…….Offenders and violators risk jail terms, and option of fines

…….State Government’s prerogative on constituted board members remains unquestionable

The Oyo State Government has reiterated and affirmed that the Rule of Law must be upheld by all residents and dwellers, irrespective of tribe and affiliations.

The Chairperson, Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) Hon. Justice Aderonke A. Aderemi (Rtd.) states that the Authority which was established by his Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State Engr. Seyi Makinde in April 2024 and inaugurated in August 2024 is saddled with the responsibility to oversee and enforce laws in Oyo State, in particular as it relates to Enviromental Protection Laws, Road Traffic Management Regulation Laws and Open Rearing and Grazing Laws in the State.

Hon. Justice Aderemi states further that each of these Laws are already established Laws in the state. The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority has only been created to carry out enforcement on each of the Laws as the case may be. As an Authority, we are leaving no stone unturned to have an orderly, safe and clean State, as desired by His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, which is for the benefit of all.

We are the new ‘Sheriff’ in town, and we are to guard against violators of Anti-Open Grazing and Open Rearing Law, Environmental and Sanitation Law Breakers and the Traffic Regulations Offenders as well as all other related Laws.

The Rule of Law is no respecter of anyone, tribe or affiliations. It has come to stay and must be upheld by all. Whoever is found culpable of the related Regulations and Laws should be ready to face the full weight of the Law.

I am therefore using this medium to inform all herders to vacate all farm settlements in Oyo State. Farm Settlements are mainly for farming purposes and it is illegal to graze cows, sheep, goats and even chickens on any farm settlement in Oyo State.

Putting it straight, the State Government, having examined the Laws properly, has the prerogative to appoint whosoever she wishes as Board Members in any of her Laws.
Therefore, no individual or association has any right or entitlement regarding the constitution of the Board.

For every arrest and apprehension, the Mobile Courts and Tribunals are strategically positioned to prosecute offenders.

Furthermore, counsel are available to defend or apply for bail as the case may be, otherwise, a jail term or option of fines awaits such offenders or Law breakers.

We therefore urge the citizenry to uphold the Rule of Law in Oyo State to avoid being sanctioned.

E-Signed:
The Chairperson, Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority
Hon. Justice Aderonke A. Aderemi (Rtd.)
